    Default Starting out

Its sure is easy to start a mowing business till you start to figure in ALL your cost. Fuel, insurence machinery, upkeep, advertising, bidding and the list goes on. once all your cost are figured in the true cost of starting up is not as cheap as handing out flyers and hauling the mower around.

That is true. But I have a friend that is so busy in the summer that he has no time to spend with friends! His business, over time, has really prospered and his wallet shows it!

Some of the things I've noticed that he does are: Main form of advertising is word of mouth. Don't be afraid after doing a great job for a client to ask him/her to pass the word around. There is nothing better than a satisfied client recommending you.

Always stick to your schedule, when possible. The customer is expecting you on a certain date and you should meet their expectations.

I could go on and on but this will be a couple ideas to get you to thinking.

Yes but still who ever said anything was free? You have to earn everything! You have to work, advertising is hard work, once your name is out there your business should boom soon though.

Not only is nothing free and you have to work for everything; owning your own business means you are the last one to get paid!

It is important like you discussed to look at all of your costs. It does not have to be a super expensive business. If you are doing a handfull of jobs it does not make sense to buy the expensive mower. If you plan to grow into the business and buy what you need, you will be better off in the long run. This is all unless you are in a market where guys dont know how much their costs are and are pricing too low. Then all bets are off.
