Default Weed Control - To use Chemicals or not

We have tried to show the customers that we don't have to use chemicals to give them a beautiful lawn, but it does not seem that they appreciate the fact that we have to charge them more, so they can be one of the "green families" in the area. They don't seem to understand that it takes a lot more labor to weed their lawn without the chemicals. How have some of you other folks handled this as far as explaining this to the customers?? and what kind of luck have you had??

My father does his own landscaping on his large property and uses many home made remedies including such things as beer and whiskey (not together I do not believe) There are particular recipes you can find to follow that work just as well, if not better than commercial chemicals. And, I prefer the natural approach whenever possible.

I will try to find out from my father some of the recipies or where he got them and let you all know. Sharing information like this can only help us all.

From my understanding of non pestcontrol lawns they will always cost more to maintain than those lawns that use chemicals to rid them of weeds or insects. This is a fact of life. I would suggest visiting your local Extension Agent an ask for reference material to controlling weeds and insects, without pesticides. You will find there are many product you can use who origin can be traced to other plants that are used to control weeds and insects. Like: Talstar: which is an insecticide derived from a flower. Corn Gluten: Which is used as a pre emergent to control ungerminating weeds, etc.

Good luck on your search
